Why Are Sports Physicals Important?

Spring sports are a few weeks away, and if your child is interested in joining a team, they'll benefit from a sports physical. Our doctors at Royal Pediatrics offer sports physicals in Fayetteville, Tullahoma, and Manchester, TN, to observe your child's medical history and perform a physical examination. In some states, this medical exam is a requirement, but even if it isn't, we suggest them to determine whether your child is healthy enough to safely participate in the sport of their choice.

Why Are Sports Physicals Important?

Our pediatrician will inquire about your child's medications, past illnesses, hospitalizations, and allergies to ensure they're in the best possible health on and off the field. They'll also ask about prior injuries, family medical history, and whether your child has ever fainted, felt lightheaded, displayed breathing difficulties, or reported experiencing chest pain while engaging in physical activity.

Our pediatrician may ask additional questions based on your child's age during their sports physicals. Our doctor measures your child's height, weight, pulse, flexibility, and blood pressure. They'll also observe posture and check their vision, joints, and strength. If your child has allergies or other medical conditions, such as diabetes, our pediatrician may also want to confirm that information.

Schedule Your Childs Sports Physical

Don't worry if your child fails their sports physical. It could be a sign that they're running improperly, their muscles are being overworked, or they have a lung condition like asthma that makes it more difficult for them to engage in sports. If your child shows interest in playing sports, consult with our doctors to discuss sports physicals. Please visit our website to learn more about the conditions we treat and the services provided.
